Department Overview:
The Rehabilitation Therapy Department is committed to provide the highest quality standard of services in order to improve the quality of life of people with functional disabilities.
We aim to become a regional leader in the delivery of rehabilitation services, setting standards of excellence, and developing clinical models through interdisciplinary, evidence-based and patient-centered care.
Our main goals are: to restore maximum physical and functional potential, address the psychological effects of the disability, and to minimize the time it takes to return to daily activity.
Our department is the major rehabilitation facility in the city of Al Ain and surrounding areas.

Division/Sub-Specialities  

Today, the Rehabilitation Therapy Department at Tawam Hospital consists of the following sections: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Audiology, Optometry, Podiatry, Psychology and Support Staff.

 

Scope of Services

The Rehabilitation Therapy Department treats patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
We provide services for patients disabled as a result of stroke, cancer, neurologic disorders, head injury, trauma, amputation, organ transplantation, and orthopedic conditions.
Each patient is carefully evaluated to determine the most appropriate course of care. Our continuum of care can follow each patient from inpatient to outpatient. We offer a depth of clinical experience and expertise that includes our physical-, occupational-, and speech therapy staff, as well as audiology, podiatry, optometry and psychology staff.
The department strives to set standards that exceed the requirements of Joint Commission International for accreditation of hospital organizations.

Hours of work (for Physio- and Occupational Therapy)
Tawam Hospital:     
         Inpatients:
                  Sunday to Thursday: from 08:00 am to 5:00 pm 
                  Friday: 08:00 am to 1 pm 
         Outpatients: 
                  Sunday to Thursday: from 07:30 am to7:30 pm 
                  These hours are covered over two shifts on a rotational basis. 
                  Shift 1 from 07:30 am to 3:30 pm 
                  Shift 2 from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm 
  Al Wagan Hospital (Physiotherapy):
         All patients:
                  Sunday to Thursday: from 08:00 am to 4:00 pm 
                  Services provided by two Physiotherapists, one male and one female
Hours of work for the other Rehabilitation Therapy Department’s sections is Sunday to Thursday: from 08:00 am to 4:00 pm for both in- and outpatients.

The Rehabilitation Therapy Department’s sections are located in different areas of the Tawam campus. See the different sections’ links for directions. The office of the Chief of Rehabilitation is located in the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Department which is in the Hospital's main building, ground floor, in between X-Rays and MRI Departments.
