Department of Medicine

Department Overview:
The Department of Medicine is an integral part of the hospital service. It is comprised of 11 distinct services and more than 70 physicians with different grades of qualifications – consultants, specialists medical officers and residents.
 
The Department covers both inpatient and outpatient services in addition to active consultation for other Departments i.e. surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, etc.
 
The Department also covers Al Wagan Hospital with 24/7 coverage.
 
The Department is working closely together with other Departments i.e. surgery, obstetrics and gynecology etc, to establish more the model of multidisciplinary approach (Tumor Board, Combined clinics, etc).
 
The Department is also working together with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in teaching, education and training programs.

Scope of Services:
  1. Cardiac Catheter Laboratory Service is offered in a 24-hour basis for treatment of myocardial infarction.
  2. Busy Diabetic Center with an increasing number of patients – 4600 outpatients in 2000 and 18, 665 outpatients in 2006.
  3. State of the art Endoscopic Unit with diagnostic and therapeutic facilities for gastrointestinal and pancreatic biliary tracts.
  4. Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
  5.  EMG, EEG.
  6. Comprehensive non-invasive diagnostic Cardiac Laboratory (echocardiography, transesophageal echo, stress test).
  7. Rheumatology Clinics for update management of rheumatic disease.
  8. Hepatology Clinics for Hepatitis B and C and liver transplant patients.
  9. Two medical floors with more than 100 beds capacity mainly for acute medicine and difficult cases which are referred from all hospitals in UAE.  The daily average admission is 7-10 cases per day.
  10. More than 104 outpatient clinics for general medicine and sub specialities.
