UAE MS Director Welcome Message

Dear friends,

Welcome to the official website of “the United Arab Emirates Multiple Sclerosis Support Group”.

We hope you will find some useful information and few helpful hints about this potentially devastating neurological disease that affect young women and men in their prime years and seem to be (contrary to what may physicians and text books used to report) fairly common in the wider middle east region and our Arabian Gulf area. The UAE MS Support Group established just over one year ago, by a group of dedicated volunteers with an initiative from the Neurology Division at Tawam Hospital (Al Ain- UAE).

Active participation of many MS patients has made our group grow stronger and bigger, and now we have patient audience not only from Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, but from many other Emirates Dubai, Sharja, and Ras Al Khaimah. Our group has developed ambitious goals; the most urgent of these was developing this website. Membership is free for patients, their families and all members of the public who are interested in the disease or care for patients. Every body is encouraged to join and participate.

We have held our first meeting on Tuesday June12, 2007 at the AL Ain Hilton hotel. Since then we continue to hold regular meetings in Lecture Hall one, at the polyclinic building of Tawam Hospital. We have plans to move our meetings To other Emirates in the near future.

I am very proud of the timeless work our patients and staff have put into nurturing this group. Very special thanks to Ms Azhar Talal (the group’s sole and loving heart) and Ms Noura Al Darmaki (from the IT department) for their hard work, great taste and nice touch in developing this website.
