Membership:

► Who has access to Tawam Medical Library?

 

All staff of Tawam Hospital and the affiliated clinics (Al Jahili, Naima, Dental Center and Al Wagan Hospital).

► What are the library hours? 

 

The library opens from 08:00 am to 04:00 pm on weekdays, except on weekends.

Tawam Medical Library is located at the 2nd floor of the Polyclinic, S314, Tawam Medical Campus .

 

 

Borrowing Policy:

► How many books shall I borrow at a time and for how long?

 

You are entitled to borrow 3 books at a time for 2 weeks, which can be renewed once ONLY. Refer to our policy for more details.

► How do I check out a book, a journal or other Library materials?

 

To check materials out of the Library, you need a current hospital ID card. Bring your ID to the Circulation Desk and we will register you for borrowing privileges and membership card. Each time you need to borrow, present Hospital Employee ID card to the desk staff. For additional information, please refer to our policy

► How does Tawam Medical Library select new books, journals and other resources?

 

Tawam Medical Library selects new books, journals and other resources based on several factors/inputs.

 For example:

  • Suggestions from library patrons.
  • Publisher Catalogs.

  • Library individual efforts in identifying and assessing the needs of the hospital.

If you want to suggest a book, please let us know via the Recommend a New Book

► What if the Library doesn't own the book I want?

 

If the library doesn’t own the book you want, then you can check the National Medical Library, Faculty of Medicine to see if they have the book you want. You can do that by checking their website

If the book you want is not available, then you may recommend new one for purchasing through the Library by filling Recommend a New Book

 

 

Accessing Online Resources

► I would like to access the electronic databases of HAAD E-library from home. How can I do this?

 

 Yes, you can access and navigate from home through www.haad-elibrary.com, but you will be unable to view the full articles, only the abstracts. The library will try to provide this service in the near future. 

 

 

Interlibrary Document Delivery Service, (Article Request)

► What if I need a journal article that's not held in the Library?

 

You can request an Interlibrary Loan by filling out the Interlibrary Document Delivery Service; (Request Articles)

► How long does it take to get articles via Document delivery?

 

Usually it takes around one week from the day of request for the article; however there may be delays depending on availability. For more information, please review our policy.

 

 

Locating Resources

► How do I find about the printed books and other materials that is available in the library?

 

To find out what printed books and other materials we own, you need to visit us in the library and we will search the materials for you. A Search Catalog system is expected to be implemented in the near future. 

► Is there a list of journals the library subscribes to?

 

Yes, you can check this link to find what Tawam Library owns in term of printed journals.  Also, you can check HAAD E-library for electronic one.

 

 

Finding Information You Need

► How do I find a list of articles on a particular topic or by a certain author?

 

Try searching an article database such as PubMed. Databases can be searched many ways, including author, keyword, and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). PubMed is a main resource for biomedical journal literature, but there are many databases specific to many disciplines, including AccessMedicine, Clinical evidence, Cochrane library, MDConsult, Nursing (CINAHL) etc. Visit HAAD elibrary to find more Databases in different subjects.

► My list of article citations contains abbreviations for the journal titles. How can I find the full name of the journals?

 

If the citations come from MEDLINE you can use the Journals Database in PubMed and enter the abbreviation to get the full title or vice versa. Otherwise, you can try for journals that aren't indexed in MEDLINE.

► What resource can I use to look up the proper pronunciation of a medical term?

 

Stedman's and other Dictionaries are high quality medical dictionaries that available through our website.

► Can someone do a literature search for me?

 

Yes, we offer this service but you need to take an appointment before coming to the library. Call us at ext. 2422.

► Is there a calendar of upcoming workshops at Tawam Medical Library?

 

Yes, starting from 2008 we will offer a variety of workshops. We will display all the workshops on our website and will announce via email.

 

 

Library General Services & Policies

► Can I have articles photocopied for me and sent to me?

 

Yes you can! All what you need to do is to come to the library, fill the Photocopy Request Form and we will mail it to you as indicated in the form. Check the policy for more details.

► Can I bring food into the library? 

 

Food and Beverages are not permitted in the library at any time
